Bus Driver Training

**New Driver Class Information**

Please visit the CCPS Human Resources page to complete an application for employment. We are currently hiring for the following positions:

    1. Bus Driver/Car Driver

*** You must submit a current driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles with you application to become a school bus driver or car driver.

We will prepare you to acquire your Commercial Driver’s License from The Department of Motor Vehicles. We will provide you with materials to acquire your learners permit. Once you’ve acquired your learners, you will be sent to complete your physical and TB screening.

Training – Our training is provided on-site at the Caroline County Public Schools Transportation Services building. Our Department of Motor Vehicles testing is provided by Spotsylvania County Public Schools Transportation Services and is provided at their location. Training is broken down into the following:

    1. Classroom Training (48-hours)
    2. Behind the Wheel Training (24-hours)

Classroom Training curriculum will consist of the following:

    • Classroom to acquire learners permit (by request only)
    • Department of Education Curriculum
    • Department of Education Curriculum for Special Needs
    • Behind the Wheel Training with a Certified Trainer
    • Behind the Wheel Training with students, with a Certified Trainer

Classroom Training Hours – 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. or until the required 48 hours is completed.

Behind the Wheel Training – 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. or until the required 24 hours is completed.

Behind the Wheel Training with students – Required to complete 10 hours of Behind the Wheel Training with students after acquiring a Commercial Driver’s License. This is completed during morning and afternoon runs. Ten hours is a required minimum but may require more hours until you are comfortable driving with students.
